Commonwealth Stadium

Commonwealth Stadium, named for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is located on the campus of the University of Kentucky and is the home field for the school's football team, replacing the smaller Stoll Field. Built in 1973, it is the newest football stadium in the Southeastern Conference. The original capacity for the stadium was 57,800. In Commonwealth's first game, played on September 15, 1973, the Wildcats defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies 31-26. The facility currently seats 67,606.

Facts About Commonwealth Stadium

• The playing area is titled C. M. Newton Field, named after the former UK director of athletics in 2001.



• Since its opening, Kentucky has played 206 games at Commonwealth Stadium. A 107-95-4 record and a .529 winning percentage is evidence that Commonwealth is a home field advantage for the Wildcats.



• The 10-millionth person to attend a UK football game came during the 2002 season opener against Texas-El Paso.



• In 1999, both ends of the stadium were enclosed, along with the construction of 40 suites, 10 in each corner of the stadium. The total number of seats was increased to 67,606.
