The Vanderbilt Commodores Football Team competes in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the SEC's only private school. With fewer than 6,400 undergraduates, the school is also the smallest in the SEC. In 2007, the Vanderbilt football team upset #6 ranked South Carolina 17-6 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, beating a top 10 team for the first time in 33 years. It was the highest ranked team Vanderbilt had beaten since defeating #6 LSU in 1937, and came one week after losing 20-17 to #21 Georgia on the final play of the game in Nashville. James Franklin is the current head football coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores Football Team. Vandy finished the 2011 season with a 6-7 record and a berth in the Liberty Bowl. The Commodores play football at Vanderbilt Stadium at Dudley Field, which seats 34,000.
